Brisbane City Centre
Brisbane City Centre – There's Lots To Do In Brissie !
The Best Western Sunnybank Star Motel and Apartments is a hop, skip and a jump from Brisbane city centre...well to be exact, it's about 15 minutes by Bus. The bus stop is across the road from the motel and buses pass by frequently. You could take your own transport if you really wanted but parking is quite expensive in Brisbane so using public transport makes more sense. Once in Brisbane there is heaps to do.
To Do In The Day
The Queens Street Mall has all the shops and eating venues you could ever want. These include premium marque brands like Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo, Bally, MaxMara. There are also cinemas and arcades to entertain kids. Most buses end (or start) their journeys at or near the Queens Street Mall so this might be a place to start if you are planning a day in Brisbane.
Across the river is the South Bank Parkland. This was the old Expo 88 venue that has been turned into a park and even a beach. You could spend an afternoon “at the beach in Brisbane” if you wanted. South Bank also has it's fair share of restaurants and eating holes. Events take place throughout the year in and around South Bank.
Since it was created, the area has become a bit of a cultural hotspot in Brisbane. You will find the Queensland Performing arts centre, the Brisbane Museum, the Sciencentre and the Queensland art gallery (and modern art gallery).
You can take in a play or ballet at the performing arts centre. The museum and sciencentre include all sorts of exhibits from dinosaurs through to science experiments that will fascinate kids and adults alike.
At the art galleries you can see works by Pablo Picasso and indigenous art pieces. The galleries frequently have exhibitions on a theme or featuring works from other galleries throughout the world. In November they are featuring works from the Prado gallery in Madrid.
If you fancy a night out Caxton street is a favourite spot. This is a street running down to the Suncorp stadium. All manner of pubs, restaurants and nightclubs can be found on this street. Many have live music and other forms of entertainment.
Another place to try for a night out is the Treasury Casino. The casino opened in 1995 after redeveloping and renovating the old Queensland treasury building. The Casino has 80 gaming tables featuring blackjack, poker, roulette and a few other games. There is also 1500 plus pokies if that is what you want.
Alongside the casino, there are other forms of entertainment. Principally live music and DJing sets in the Livewire bar.
For The More Intrepid
If you want to do something more intrepid and don't have a fear of heights then why not try the Story Bridge Adventure Climb or abseiling at Kangaroo point.
As the name says, the Story bridge adventure climb lets you climb the famous bridge crossing the Brisbane river. Apart from the thrill of climbing, you also get a wonderful view of the city.
Kangaroo point is another spot that affords great views of the city. But when you aren't checking out the views why not abseil down the shear rock walls. This is a thrilling and surprisingly easy technique to master. And great fun too.
